Acute bacterial tonsillitis

The palatine tonsils are increased in size and with hyperemia of the crypts in diffuse form, predominantly in the right, where formation of hypodense images with irregular borders consistent with phlegmon changes extending cranially to the level of the nasopharynx. These are associated with the presence of extensive edematous changes in adipose tissue adjacent to parapharyngeal and submandibular space and the presence of many reactive adenopathy in relation to both jugular chains. Not images compatible with abscesses or collections are identified.

 

Case Discussion

Findings consistent with bilateral acute pharyngitis and tonsillitis, with extensive phlegmon to the right.
