Presentation

Right dorsal wrist pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

Soft tissue calcification involves the dorsal wrist at the intercarpal joint level. No fracture/dislocation/bone lesion. Soft tissue thickening involving the wrist.

ultrasound

Dorsal wrist peri-articular soft tissue calcification (about 6 x 5 mm) with local soft tissue thickening and mild hypervascularity.  Radiocarpal joint small effusion.

The overlying patent subcutaneous vein shows normal valves.

Case Discussion

The patient presented with acute onset of the dorsal wrist pain without a history of trauma. Radiograph and ultrasound favor acute calcific peri-arthritis.
