Acute complete anterior talofibular ligament tear

Acute grade III anterior talofibular ligament injury is noted with associated adjacent soft tissue edema.
Anterior and posterior syndesmosis are intact.
Posterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments are intact.
Medial ligaments like deltoid and spring, including flexor retinaculum are intact.
Mild marrow edema of medial malleolus is noted.
Mild ankle joint effusion is noted.
Rest of the structures of ankle are within normal limits.
Case Discussion
Anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) injury is the most commonly injured ligament of the ankle and it is also the first to be injured on the lateral side.
