The examination shows a collection with epicenter in the left parapharyngeal space with gas bubbles inside and extensive emphysematous involvement of the cervical supra and infrahyoid spaces at a superficial and deep level, dissecting muscle-aponeurotic planes caudally and also extending caudally through the danger space with emphysema in the upper mediastinum together with increased fat attenuation.

Case Discussion

Extensive supra and infrahyoid cervical emphysematous involvement, of superficial and deep planes with evidence of collection at the left parapharyngeal level and involvement towards caudal by extension through the danger space that results in mediastinal emphysema and signs suggestive of mediastinitis.
