Acute mesenteric ischemia


6 days of worsening abdominal pain, now having severe periumbilical and upper abdominal pain. CRP 150, WCC 11.7 ?biliary sepsis ?other intra-abdominal pathology

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male

Acute small bowel ischemia due to acute superior mesenteric vein and portal vein occlusion showing edematous bowel loops, multiple collaterals and minimal ascites. No complications like perforation or pneumoperitoneum or obstruction. There was incidental pneumobilia.

Case Discussion

The team opted for non-surgical intervention and the patient was put on anticoagulants, under supervision for guarding signs. No clinical complications developed.
