Acute parotitis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right parotid region pain, swelling for 3-4 days. Increased swelling to involve right side of neck for 1-2 days.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Right -   Superficial lobe of parotid gland -  Mild diffuse enlargement without focal lesion. Normal echopattern. Hypervascularity. 

Left - Superficial lobe of parotid gland - Normal size. Normal echopattern. No Hypervascularity. 

Right submandibular gland - Normal size. Normal echopattern.

Left submandibular gland - Normal size. Normal echopattern.

Echogenic subcutaneous fat along with thickening is noted in right parotid and submandibular region. No collection / fluid cleft is noted.

Case Discussion

Findings favor inflammation of the superficial lobe of the right parotid gland and subcutaneous fat inflammation in the adjacent right-sided neck region.
