Patient Data
The sigmoid colon shows diverticular disease, one of the diverticulae show surrounding fat stranding and reactive mural thickening of the adjacent pelvic colon wall denoting acute inflammatory process consistent with acute diverticulitis.
There is no evidence of complications.

Case Discussion
Acute diverticulitis is one of the presentations of diverticular disease of the colon. It usually occurs in the sigmoid colon.
Our case shows non-complicated diverticulitis with no evidence of abscess, perforation or fistula formation. The patient's symptoms resolved on antibiotic treatment.
