Acute sinusitis

Headache and postnasal discharge.

Patient Data

Age: 30-year-old
Gender: Female

CT Paransal sinuses

Non-contrast CT scan showing an extensive mucosal thickening in the paranasal sinuses, with almost entire opacification of the maxillary and ethmoid sinus. The osteomeatal complexes are obliterated. The nasal septum is midline.

Case Discussion

Patients with typical symptoms of acute sinusitis do not require imaging for clinical management. CT scan is the gold standard for diagnosis confirmation, and should be regarded for specific cases when there are a recurrent infection or atypical evolution.
