Acute subhepatic appendicitis

Presentation

Right sided abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

The appendix is enlarged with thick wall and impacted appendicolith at its proximal part. It is located retrocoecal that goes upwards reaching Morrison's pouch and inferior edge of the liver. There is surrounding fat stranding and thickening of adjacent peritoneal reflections. No related collections or evidence of perforation.

Case Discussion

Features of acute uncomplicated appendicitis, with impacted appendicolith. The subhepatic position of the appendix is less common and may have atypical presentation mimicking renal or biliary colic. It can be associated with rare complications of acute appendicitis as formation of liver abscess.
