Acute superior mesenteric vein thrombosis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Vomiting for the last 8 - 9 days. Followed by fever, for last 5 - 6 days and currently complaining of 1 day history of abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Echogenic material is noted in distal superior mesenteric vein and proximal portal vein.

SMV is completely occluded.

Portal vein is partly occluded.

Splenic vein - patent.

Superior mesenteric artery  - patent.

No dilated bowel / odematous bowel wall / ascites.

Case Discussion

Findings favor actue superior mesenteric venous thrombous.
