Presentation
Sudden deterioration and altered conscious state.
Patient Data
Hyperdensity in the left thalamic area is seen measuring about 25 x 15 x 20 mm in its maximal dimensions, typical of acute hemorrhage. It shows mild mass effect in form of compression of the adjacent parts of the left lateral ventricle. Mild surrounding perifocal edema is seen. No intraventricular extension. No hydrocephalic changes.
Associated arteriosclerotic leukoencephalopathy with small lacunar infarcts.
Involutional brain changes.
Case Discussion
Thalamic hemorrhage is one of the most common non-traumatic intracerebral hemorrhages, usually due to hypertension.
