Presentation
Two days of worsening headache with associated nausea and vomiting. A left-sided headache made worse on bending forward.
Patient Data
An area of hyperdensity corresponding to the left transverse sinus and sigmoid sinus.
CT venogram demonstrates a filling defect extending from the left transverse sinus and sigmoid sinus.
Case Discussion
On non-contrast CT imaging, venous sinus thrombosis appears hyperdense. However, this can be difficult to distinguish from a normal venous sinus which normally appears slightly hyperdense compared to brain parenchyma. In such cases, CT venogram can help confirm the diagnosis by demonstrating filling defects.
