Adenocarcinoma of caecum

Presentation

Occult blood in stool. Colonoscopy revealed a polypoid mass in the caecum.

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

A polypoid mass is visible in the caecum with surrounding fat stranding and locally enlarged lymph nodes. A solitary pathologic lymph node is also visible asjacent to the interlobar fissure of the liver.

Additional findings: liver and kidney cysts, osteoporotic compression fracture of the T12 vertebra. 

Case Discussion

Typical presentation of invasive colorectal cancer that was confirmed as adenocarcinoma by histology. Use of oral contrast significantly improves diagnostic confidence and accuracy.
