Adenoid cystic carcinoma - maxillary sinus

Presentation

Right hemifacial pain.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

The MRI sequences reveal a lobulated soft tissue mass centered on the posterosuperior wall of the right maxillary sinus measuring 33x20x18 mm. It displays an intermediate signal on T1WI, high signal on T2WI and enhances intensely on post-contrast sequences. It shows a posterior extension to the pterygomaxillary fissure as well as a superior extension to the inferomedial extraconal space with partial destruction of the orbital floor.

Case Discussion

MRI features of a right maxillary tumor extending to the pterygomaxillary fissure and orbital extraconal space. The patient went to have an endoscopic exam with biopsy and histopathological exam (confirmed as an adenoid cystic carcinoma).
