Adrenal adenoma

Case contributed by Dr Hani Makky ALSALAM

Status post left nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

Incidental small right adrenal nodule, which has the attenuation of -4.5 HU (<10 HU) on his non-contrast CT, consistent with a lipid-rich adrenal adenoma.

Surgical clips of previous left nephrectomy.

Case Discussion

Status post left nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma. Patient has a right adrenal nodule for evaluation. NCCT of the abdomen showed that the adrenal nodule has a HU of -4.5 (which is less than 10), making the lesion an adrenal adenoma rather than a metastatic deposit. Even in a patient with a prior history of malignancy an adrenal nodule will still be an adenoma in 50% cases.
