Presentation

Incidental large right adrenal mass.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

Removed surgically

pathology

Macro: Adrenal gland 75 x 50 x 45 mm and 90 g with thin yellow cortex and central dark red/brown to gelatinous lesion, up to 70 mm. 

Macroscopic: The findings are classical with central congested, red to brown lesion and thin residual rim of yellow adrenal cortex.

Microscopic: The histology nicely demonstrates the component tissues including:

  • lipid vaculoes (these are actually empty holes in histological sections as the lipid is 'washed out' during routine processing. 
  • hematological elements including myeloid, erythroid and megakaryocytic
