Presentation
Haematuria. No prior medical history.
Patient Data
Bilateral renomegaly.
The renal parenchyma of both kidneys is largely replaced by cysts of varying sizes. Thin rim calcification of multiple cysts.
High attenuation in several of the cortical cysts, consistent with haemorrhage or proteinaeous material.
6 cm segment 8/7 hepatic haemangioma.
Case Discussion
The typical appearances of innumerable cysts of variable size replacing the functional parenchymal tissue of the kidneys observed in adult polycystic kidney disease (APKD)
Over time some cysts may be of variable attenuation reflective of blood or proteinaceous material within or part calcify.
This was this young adult's first presentation with the symptoms of haematuria.
