Age: 5 months
Gender: Female

Complete agenesis of the corpus callosum demonstrating a number of the classical appearances: 

  • symmetrical dilatation of the occipital horns of the lateral ventricles known as colpocephaly
  • tear-drop configuration of the atrial trigones
  • dilatation of the temporal horns 
  • high riding 3rd ventricle
  • absent septum pellucidum
  • racing car sign with dilated frontal horns forming the front tyres and dilated occipital horns the rear tyres. Dilated 3rd ventricle forms the midsection of the F1 car

Case Discussion

In the setting of an antenatal ultrasound demonstrating an interhemispheric cyst then the following should be considered1

  • cavum septum pellucidum
  • cavum vergae
  • cavum velum interpositum
  • interhemispheric arachnoid cyst
