Agenesis of the corpus callosum with interhemispheric cyst

Case contributed by Rodrigo Dias Duarte
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Patient presenting headache and episodes of memory loss.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male

MRI demonstrates a large unilocular left paramedian CSF intensity mass lesion, that communicates with the third ventricle. It follows CSF on all sequences, including FLAIR. Also is noted the agenesis of the corpus callosum, with disproportionate prominence of the lateral ventricles, specially of the occipital horns (colpocephaly) and at the left side.

Axial images better demonstrates the association with polymicrogyria and grey matter heterotopia in the frontal left lobe.

See the main findings in the annotated images.

Case Discussion

Callosal agenesis along with the interhemispheric cyst, that appears to be an extension of the third ventricle, and in association with the malformations of cortical development, configures Barkovich type 1b.
