Air bronchogram (ultrasound)

Case contributed by G Balachandran
Diagnosis probable
ultrasound

In this image air remaining within the larger airways in an area of consolidated lung (air bronchogram) manifests as echogenic branching structures.

Case Discussion

Although ultrasound has a limited role in imaging of the lung, when the parenchyma is consolidated the absence of air allows for sound transmission and thus imaging.
