Presentation

History of 'eating' almonds followed by 4 days of cough.

Patient Data

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male

Supine view

x-ray

There is a hyperinflated left lung with a mediastinal push to the right side. There is no airspace opacification or pleural effusion.

Case Discussion

Given the clinical background, the chest radiograph suggested a foreign body in the left bronchus. Bronchoscopy revealed an almond fragment in the left main bronchus.

The left lung is hyperlucent due to air-trapping caused by the left bronchus foreign body.
