Alcoholic cardiomyopathy

45 year old man presented to ED following syncopal event. Drinks one of spirits a day. Exercise tolerance of less than 20m.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Male

Cardiac silhouette is grossly enlarged. Blunted costodiaphragmatic recesses. 

Case Discussion

A transthoracic echocardiogram showed an ejection fraction of 4%. The patient has since expressed a desire to stop drinking.
