The lungs are hyperinflated with relative hyperlucency of the lower zones.

Modality: CT

The lungs are hyperinflated.

There is hyperlucency of the lower zones, relative to the upper zones. 

This distribution is suggestive of alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency related lung disease.

Case Discussion

The diagnosis of alpha 1 antityrpsin deficiency was confirmed in this patient after blood tests revealed low serum alpha-1 antitrypsin levels.
