Anaplastic astrocytoma NOS

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Recurrent headaches and seizures.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
mri

A well defined CSF intensity ovoid lesion at the right frontal lobe with extensive surrounding edema. The lesion shows faint peripheral enhancement, however, the dural coverings of the lobe show linear enhancement.

Significant mass effect with midline shifting and subfalcine herniation.

Case Discussion

The patient underwent surgery.

Diagnosis: Anaplastic astrocytoma, WHO grade III.

Note: IDH mutation status is not provided in this case and according to the current (2016) WHO classification of CNS tumors, this tumor would, therefore, be designated as an anaplastic astrocytoma NOS.
