Anaplastic ependymoma (histology)

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Posterior fossa tumor.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
pathology

Cellular tumor with prominent nuclear pleomorphism and numerous cells undergoing mitosis (bottom right corner) as well as apoptosis. Perivascular pseudorosettes (Figure 2) are present with endothelial hyperplasia. This is an immunohistochemically confirmed ependymoma. Aforementioned features warrant a designation of anaplastic ependymoma, although the clinical significance of this is uncertain.
