Case contributed by A.Prof Frank Gaillard

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
Modality: MRI

A relatively well circumscribed mass involving the insular cortex on the left and surrounding brain is present. It has central areas which attenuate on FLAIR, and demonstrates no convincing enhancement.

Case Discussion

The patient went on to have a craniotomy and biopsy which demonstrated an anaplastic oligodendroglioma. The main differential on imaging is that of protoplasmic astrocytoma.
