Ankle disarticulation

Infection and unable to walk following a visit to a traditional healer.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

There is disarticulation of the ankle with no talus or foot present bilaterally. Soft tissue loss over the distal tibia and fibula is seen.


Magnified distal tibia and fibula demonstrate distal fractures and bony lucency due to ischemia.

Case Discussion

History of treatment with a traditional healer.  In this case, the chronic ischemia was caused by bandaging around the ankles.
