Oblique fracture of the distal fibula. The fracture is above the level of the syndesmosis. Features are of a Weber C ankle fracture. Note the widening of medial joint space.

Distal fibular fractures are a group of injuries that can vary significantly in their seriousness and the treatment required.

The Weber classification uses the tibiofibular syndesmosis to group these injuries into 3 sets. Those above the syndesmosis are the most severe (type C) and are unstable injuries, usually requiring internal fixation.
