Presentation

Post-twisted ankle with pain and swelling of the ankle joint.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male
ct

There is an undisplaced transverse fracture of the infrasyndesmotic lateral malleolus.

Mild soft tissue swelling is present around the lateral malleolus.

The tibiofibular syndesmosis is intact.

The deltoid ligament is intact, as evidenced by the normal space between the medial malleolus and the talar dome.

The medial malleolus appears normal.

Case Discussion

Post-twisted ankle with the finding demonstrating a Weber A type 1 fracture, which is stable and infrasyndesmotic, with an intact tibiofibular syndesmosis. Type 1 is the most common type of Weber A fracture.
