Presentation
10 days history of the right ankle injury.
Patient Data
The ankle radiograph was negative for a fracture.
There is effusion in the anterior recess of the ankle joint. The anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament shows a full-thickness defect in the midpart. The anterior talofibular ligament shows discontinuation of the fibular end. The calcaneofibular ligament shows a normal echopattern. The posterior talofibular ligament is intact. The peroneal tendons are normal without tenosynovitis/ subluxation/ dislocation.
Case Discussion
A patient had a right ankle injury when he tried to run to his right side with his right foot fixed to the ground. He heard two popping noises at the time of injury and was unable to walk immediately. After a negative ankle radiograph for a fracture, immobilization was done. The ultrasound shows a tear of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament and the anterior talofibular ligament.
