Ankle sinus

Presentation

Recurrent discharge from the posterior aspect of the ankle in the region of the Achilles tendon. Previous Achilles tendon repair 4 years prior, with further surgery on local sinus tract 1 year prior.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Extended field of view (first image) shows heterogeneous area superficial (posterior) to the Achilles tendon. A tract going deep from sinus opening is seen. A suture is visible in one of the images.

Case Discussion

A tract was visualized from the sinus opening. The tract leads to an elliptical heterogenous echopattern region superficial to the Achilles tendon. Curvilinear surgical suture is noted within this lesion. The Achilles tendon appeared intact.

Patient proceeded to surgery and the suture material was removed.
