Ankylosing spondylitis

Chronic limited mobility of the spine.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

The thoracolumbar spine shows symmetrical bilateral sacroiliitis, ossified anterior longitudinal, intraspinal ligaments, flowing syndesmophytes and enthesopathy. Also, bilateral hip joint involvement, seen as bilateral symmetrical joint narrowing and subarticular pseudocystic changes.

Bilateral renal stones are seen incidentally.

Case Discussion

The vertebral column changes in such patient are consistent with ankylosing spondylitis and is known as bamboo spine.
