Neck and back pain and stiffness.
Patient Data
Severe ankylosis with multi-level syndesmophytes is seen in the cervical and thoracolumbar spine. Normal lordosis of the cervical spine is disappeared, and lordosis of the lumbar spine is decreased.
Post-operative changes and evidence of total arthroplasty are seen in the left hip. Subchondral sclerosis and irregularity with severe joint space narrowing are also evident in the right hip joint.
Severe bilateral sacroiliac joint ankylosis is also evident.
Additionally, there are signs of enthesopathy in bilateral ischiopubic regions.
Case Discussion
Diffuse syndesmophytic ankylosis gives a "bamboo spine" appearance and is accompanied by bilateral sacroiliac ankylosis typical for ankylosing spondylitis, a seronegative spondyloarthropathy.
