Anterior inferior cerebellar artery vascular loop - type II

Presentation

Right tinnitus.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

An incidental finding of a vascular loop of the right anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) just approaching the entrance of the right internal auditory canal crossing over the intracanalicular segment of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves. 

Both trigeminal nerves are normal.

Case Discussion

Vascular loop of the AICA is classified into:

  • type 1: vascular loop within the CPA level
  • type 2: vascular loop proximal to the IAC extends to less than 50% of the canal
  • type 3: vascular loop distal to the IAC extends to more than 50% of the canal
