Anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament injury

Presentation

3 weeks before the presentation, the patient had left ankle injury while descending stairs. Complaining of pain involving the anterior ankle region.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

There is effusion in the anterior recess of the ankle joint. The anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament is hypoechoic, edematous with loss of normal fibrillary echopattern. It shows continuity. Anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular ligament show continuity with normal fibrillary echopattern. 

Asymptomatic side anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament shows continuity with a normal fibrillary echopattern.

Case Discussion

A patient had forced plantar flexion of the ankle while descending stairs resulting in anterior ankle pain. The ultrasound shows anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament sprain.
