Presentation
Suspected rectal prolapse. Normal ultrasound and colonoscopy.
Patient Data
The fluoroscopic images taken upon bearing up and bearing down demonstrate:
appropriate elevation of the anorectal angle on bearing up
appropriate descent of the pelvic floor and anorectal junction on bearing down
The fluoroscopic images taken upon defecating demonstrate:
short segment of rectal intussusception
small-moderate anterior rectocoele
no rectal prolapse
The rectum emptied well, with only a small amount of contrast remaining in the sigmoid colon and rectum.
Case Discussion
This case is a demonstration of a small-moderate anterior rectocoele and recto-recto intussusception. Anterior rectocoele is more common in advanced age and with multiparity.
