Anterior superior iliac spine avulsion injury

Case contributed by Dr Eric F Greif

Fell off bicycle and felt and heard a "pop."

Patient Data

Age: 16
Gender: Male

There is an ossific density adjacent to  the right anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS). This is suspicious for an ASIS avulsion fracture. Incidentally noted is contrast within the bladder secondary to recent IV contrast study.

There is a comminuted ossific density adjacent to irregular right anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS).  Fracture site extends into the iliac crest apophysis.  Findings are keeping with ASIS avulsion fracture.

Case Discussion

Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) avulsion fracture; which goes along with patient's "pop," sensation while falling of the bicycle.
