The asymptomatic side was examined for comparison which shows normal findings.
A girl developed lateral ankle pain and swelling after a twisting injury to the left ankle. An initial radiograph was negative for fracture. The ankle was immobilized for one week, and the patient was referred for an ultrasound evaluation of the ankle. The ultrasound shows fibular bony avulsion of the anterior talofibular ligament with small effusion in the anterior ankle joint recess.
