Anterior talofibular ligament bony avulsion - pediatric

Presentation

Right ankle inversion injury - few days ago.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female

Ankle joint anterior recess effusion. Fibular tip bony avulsion at the anterior talofibular ligament attachment site. Mild edema of the anterior talofibular ligament. Normal anterior inferior tibiofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments.

The asymptomatic side anterior talofibular ligament was examined for comparison. It shows normal findings.

Case Discussion

A girl presented with lateral ankle pain and swelling after an inversion injury. An initial radiograph was negative for a fracture and the ankle was immobilized. Ultrasound was done to check lateral ankle ligaments and it shows anterior talofibular ligament bony avulsion from the fibula.
