Presentation

Trauma to ankle - about 1 wk back.

Patient Data

Age: about 40 yrs
Gender: Female

Anterior talo-fibular ligament   - Loss of normal echopattern,

                                                 - hypoechoic

                                                 - full thickness fluid cleft at fibular attachment region

Anterior tibio - fibular ligament - Intact, normal.

Calcano-fibular ligament            - Mild thickening with patchy hypoechoic areas 

                                                   - No breach in continuty.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound findings suggest tear of anterior talo-fibular ligament at fibular attachment site, and possible mild sprain of calcno-fibular ligament.

Surgery was done. It was tear of anterior talo-fibular ligament ( Source - operating surgeon ).
