Abdominal pain.
Patient Data
A well-circumscribed tubular, elongated cystic lesion is noted at right iliac fossa. The lesion is lying vertically and it continues with the terminal end of the appendix. The inferior part of the lesion is in contact with the normal right ovary and right border of uterus. Focal mural curvilinear interrupted calcification is observed. No surrounding fat stranding or abnormal lymph nodes are seen.
The uterus is enlarged and an 83×67×57 mm hetero-enhancing myoma is noted at posterior myometrium. The adnexa are unremarkable.
Case Discussion
Features are most consistent with appendiceal mucocele.
Appendiceal mucoceles occur when there is an abnormal accumulation of mucin causing abnormal distention of the vermiform appendix due to various neoplastic or non-neoplastic causes.
