Presentation
Anemia and abdominal pain in the left iliac fossa by a few months. Colonoscopy: stenotic adenocarcinoma of the left colon.
Patient Data
The lesion in right iliac fossa appear homogeneous and cystic; it is well circumscribed with central areas of low attenuation, and the contents have Hounsfield values near those of water.
Stenotic colorectal cancer with segmental circumferential thickening near the splenic flexure in descending colon.
Bilateral inguinal hernia.
Intra-operative and gross pathology photographs.
Case Discussion
Left hemicolectomy and appendectomy were performed and appendiceal mucocele and adenocarcinoma of left colon were proven.
Histology demonstrated non-invasive low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm and adenocarcinoma of the colon.
In patients with a mucocele, the risk of developing adenocarcinoma of the appendix is six times greater than that of the general population.
