Appendicitis

Presentation

Central abdominal pain shifted to right iliac fossa during last 2-3 days

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

The distal half of the appendix is dilated, up to 13 mm. The proximal half of the appendix shows a diameter up to 7 mm. The distal lumen shows fluid along with gas foci. There are three fluid-filled outpouchings from the distal appendix. The periappendiceal fat is echogenic without any collection. There is no appendicular perforation or intraluminal appendicolith.

Case Discussion

An elderly male presented with a typical history of appendicitis-related shifting pain from the center of the abdomen to the right iliac fossa. The ultrasound shows appendicitis along with appendicular diverticulosis.
