Appendicitis and incidental bicornuate uterus

Case contributed by David Cuete

Right-sided abdominal pain, vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Female

CT abdomen and pelvis

There is a large appendicolith in a distended appendix. Incidentally a bicornuate uterus was noted.

Case Discussion

The presence of an appendicolith on CT of abdomen is broadly accepted as 100% specific for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in patients with abdominal pain and is considered an indication for appendectomy.

This appendicitis was confirmed after the surgery.
