Later the same day the patient underwent a laparoscopic appendicectomy. Pathological review of the surgical specimen showed anacute gangrenous appendicitis with rupture, appendix measuring 8 x 2.5 x 2 cmscm, with a 2 cmscm appendicolith;  acute gangrenous appendicitis with rupture -perforation- and local peritonitis with periapendicular abscess.
