Arrested inferior vena cava duplication

Presentation

Known case metastatic breast cancer, underwent IVC filter.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
DSA (angiography)

Inferior vena cava venogram shows an incidental finding of a short communication between the left common iliac vein and the proximal inferior vena cava just above the union of both common iliac veins. Features are highly suggestive of arrested duplication of inferior vena cava, as a normal variant.

These images are part of IVC filter placement.

After communication between both common iliac vein to form IVC, another small branch arising from the left common iliac vein and drains in the IVC.

Features are highly suggestive of arrested duplication of inferior vena cava.

Case Discussion

Most inferior vena cava duplication are seen incidentally.
