Shortness of breath

Patient Data

Age: 65 year old man
Gender: Male

Extensive sheet like pleural thickening and calcification. Predominant upper lobes volume loss and fibrosis. 

Case Discussion

This cases has combined asbestos related pleural disease and asbestosis although the fibrosis and volume loss are in the upper lobes, unlike the typical presentaion of asbestosis and asbestos to involve the lower lobes.

The differential diagnosis for the extensive pleural calcifications would include talicosis, prior hemorrhage, or empyema.
