Case Discussion

Ascending auditory pathway (in order from 1 to 7) 1-3:

  1. Cochlear nerve at internal auditory canal

  2. Cochlear nucleus at pontomedullary junction/upper medulla

  3. Superior olivary complex at lower pons

  4. Lateral lemniscus at pons (named white matter tract)

  5. Inferior colliculus at tectum

  6. Medial geniculate body at thalamus

  7. Primary auditory cortex (Brodmann areas 41 and 42) at superior temporal gyrus
