Ascending thrombophlebitis of the greater saphenous vein

Presentation

Mild swelling and tenderness predominantly around the medial aspect of the left lower extremity.

Patient Data

Age: 70
Gender: Female

Dilated, incompressible superficial GSV tributaries along the course of the GSV, which itself is also dilated and filled with hypoechogenic thrombus. More proximally the thrombus becomes inhomogenously echogenic, and reaches the CFV junction.

Case Discussion

Findings are in line with ascending GSV thrombophlebitis.
