Ascites on AXR

Case contributed by Jeremy Jones
Diagnosis almost certain
x-ray

Bowel loops are displaced centrally (more evident on the right side). No gaseous dilatation. No evidence of perforation.

Case Discussion

A simple case of ascites. The loops of small bowel seen here are congregated within the middle of the abdomen as the fluid within the peritoneal cavity pushes them into the most dependent position: the center.

Ascites confirmed at ultrasound - not uploaded.
